Drawn to its ethereal properties and transient nature, she uses the physical nature of light to explore themes of time passage, impermanence and interconnectedness. Trained as a printmaker, Sanford’s work bridges micro and macrocosmic realms, drawing inspiration from the lens – medical scans, x-rays, cellular and telescopic imaging. This shift in scale compels a re-evaluation of human and natural systems cultivating contemplation and new insights. Employing light-reflective pigments with translucent materials and dimensional formats, her work pushes beyond the optical and physical boundaries of the surface transforming perceptions of space and time. Sanford has exhibited her work throughout the USA and UK for over 20 years.
